Keeping Connected: Froyo and WIND

I am writing this through the connection provided via my mobile data network provided by WIND Mobile.

Currently, my normal DSL ISP’s routers is down, and I have no access to the internet.

I had to look up some information online and send some stuff out for tomorrow.

Normally, I would either just pack up and go to sleep as they are still trying to figure out how to solve the problem,

Or maybe keep power cycling my modem and my router until I get internet back.

But luckily, I don’t have to do that anymore. :-)

I have the unlimited Data plan with WIND and with Android 2.2, I am able to broadcast my mobile data connection like a wifi router to multiple devices.

It is a tad slower, probably because the network is congested.

And from what I read, there are some WIND unlimited data abusers out there that pull something like 118.56 Gigs a month.

“Fair usage” is 5 Gigs, and then it’s throttled beyond that.

I’d understand if it’s like 10 Gigs, but 100+, wow.

But I guess it just goes to show you that the system can still handle it, even with people pulling so much!

Anyways, now that stuff is sent and info is acquired, so I am going to sleep now.

All the best to the ISP tonight, keep up the good work!

Despite the outage, we know that you guys are doing everything you can to fix it and we appreciate it!

Using Google Docs

Today, we were able to successfully edit and put together a document using Google Docs.

It’s actually really easy.

Also, it seems to have incorporated the live updating features of Google Wave into the system.

So we were able to see our edits live as we were typing them.

I had use prior versions of Google Docs, and I don’t remember that being one of the features.

This additional wave-like feature made collaboration super easy, especially over the phone.

It is a bit surprising that they didn’t included functionality like that into the Docs web client.

I mean, it’s there with Google Chat

Maybe a future feature is to have the Google Chat - Voice and Video, also available to use in the side bar with the text so that we can conference in discussions and see each other while we edit documents?

There are some quirks here and there.

For example, with the way it handles sharing documents and folders...

Reassigning ownership and then wanting to remove the folder from your Docs list seems to give it a bit of a headache and it doesn’t seem to work.

It will show that it has “deleted”, but it will reappear when you refresh.

And that goes for your collaborators as well. Even the owner won’t be able to delete it!

All in all, a good experience.

If you haven’t used it, I recommend trying it out with someone.

You may be pleasantly surprised.

Blog Round 2

Hi All,

This is my blog... Round 2 of it...

Sort of like a reincarnation of my old one.

I have been pretty busy with everything so I took it down a while back.

But now there is a bit more time, I think I will try to get in the habit of writing stuff down again.

Currently, this is just a generic blog.

Don't really know what stance I'll be taking or what themes will be touched.

So I went with something generic and unimaginative as “Blog Me".

More to come...
